A Little Coffee, A Lot of Grace
There was a season when I had finally taken the leap and gone all in on my business. I had poured just about everything I had into this dream, and financially, things were tight. Really tight.
I was barely making rent, juggling bills, and trying to figure out how to make it all work. Every dollar mattered, and spending money on anything extra just wasn't an option.
One day, I was driving home after setting up a wedding for a friend's daughter. I passed a Starbucks, and I felt this little nudge in my heart.
"Go get yourself a coffee."
I kept driving.
I remember thinking, Lord, you know I can't afford that. I have rent to pay, bills piling up, and I don't have money to spend on coffee right now.
But I felt that same little nudge again.
"Go get the coffee."
So I turned around.
I pulled into Starbucks, got in line, and ordered my drink. Even then, I'm sure I was thinking about the money I probably shouldn't be spending.
When I pulled up to the window, the barista handed me a little card.
Someone in the car ahead of me had already paid for my coffee.
And on that card was a simple message:
"A little something to remind you God loves you."
I can't fully explain what that moment meant to me.
It wasn't about a few dollars or a free cup of coffee. It was about everything I had been carrying. The financial worries, the long hours, the fear of whether I'd made the right decision, and all those prayers asking God to help me make this dream work.
And in that moment, I felt that same quiet voice in my heart.
"See, I've got you."
I still think about that cup of coffee.
Not because every prayer gets answered the way we hope or because following God means life will always be easy. I've certainly learned that isn't the case.
But because, during a time when I felt like I was carrying so much on my own, I was reminded that I didn't have to.
Sometimes, the smallest moments leave the biggest marks on our hearts.
And sometimes, God's grace looks like a cup of coffee.
